White House pastry chef Bill Yosses is moving on. And why not? Can you imagine being the guy in charge of fat, sugar, salt, cream, chocolate, eggs and all things delicious in an atmosphere like the hyper-healthy White House? Yikes.
In a New York Times story on his departure, Yosses praised the First Lady saying she's asked him to make healthier desserts "with humor and good will, without preaching, just the way you would hope the ‘Mom in chief’ would do.” Yet, he couldn't help adding in this zinger while explaining why he's leaving:
“I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs."
It's an interesting comment from a man who calls the First Lady an "inspiring boss." He clearly likes and respects Michelle Obama yet his statement hints at the overall atmosphere in the White House; one that says desserts and pleasurable food is off limits.
Yosses is a pastry chef. His creations are meant for pleasure. In a White House set on convincing Americans that food is nothing more than fuel, he stuck out like a sore thumb.
