Yesterday I blogged about the Democrats' suicidal impulses on display at President Trump's Feb. 28 address to Congress.

And now, on the Keep Digging That Hole theory of political suicide, the Dems are planning to purge the few moderates left in the Democratic Party–the ones whose constitutents who turned their states red in the 2016 election so their Dem lawmakers on both state and federal levels are prudently not in full-force opposition to Trump. I don't know what the goal is here–but what a fine way to ensure Republican dominance of both houses of Congress forever. Way to go, Dems!

The Hill reports:

Progressives are threatening primary challenges for Democratic lawmakers who don’t commit to full obstruction of President Trump’s agenda.

Democrats already face a daunting 2018 landscape, with 10 senators up for reelection in states that Trump won. However, the threat of primaries foes going up against vulnerable Democrats such as West Virginia’s Joe Manchin further complicates the party’s chances of coming out with a net victory.

But the party’s left flank is convinced that a full embrace of progressivism is the only way to return to power, and it is ready to fight for the party’s soul.

And apparently that "soul" is firmly esconsed on the far left. So the "progressives" have started an internet  threat campaign against the Manchins of this world that they call We Will Replace You.

The minimum qualifications for avoiding progressives’ wrath, the website adds, include voting against every Trump administration nominee, fighting against the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, being willing to slow down the legislative process to block the president’s agenda and pushing for the ouster of controversial chief strategist Stephen Bannon.

That's a high bar. As the Hill points out, even lefty presidential fave Bernie Sanders voted in the Senate to confirm three Trump appointees. But that hasn't stopped We Will Replace You from targeting other Democrats whom they regard as traitors to the anti-Trump "Resistance," as progressives call it.

Manchin has voted for more of Trump’s nominees than any other Democrat, supporting all but four. Manchin’s willingness to go along with Trump reflects voter pressure in his state, which Trump won by more than 40 percentage points over Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Others up for reelection in states Trump carried — including Sens. Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), and Joe Donnelly (Ind.) — voted in favor of the majority of Trump’s Cabinet picks.

The strategy behind We Will Replace You seems to be "data-mining": smoking out the party's left-wing base and luring its members in droves to the polls with some anti-Trump rage. Data-mining via "GOP war against women" rhetoric was said to be behind Barack Obama's 2012 reelection victory. Although when the Dems tried it again with Hillary Clinton in 2016, it didn't, uh, work so well.

But what the hay–maybe this time around….It will be fun to watch the Dems burn through dough during the 2018 primaries getting rid of Manchin (if they can).–and then, exactly how are they gonna persuade the MAGA-hat wearing ex-coal miners of West Virginia to vote for whatever lefty gets nominated in his stead?
