Celebrities to Stage "People's State of the Union" to Protest Trump

by Charlotte Hays

You sort of expected this, didn't you: There will be a "People's State of the Union" next week designed to protest President Trump's first State of the Union. Here are some of the "people" who are organizing it, according to The Hill:

Mark Ruffalo and a bevy of Hollywood fixtures — including director Michael Moore, “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie Perez, and “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon — are participating in a star-studded counter-event to President Trump’s State of the Union.

The so-called “People’s State of the Union” will be held on Monday, the night before Trump’s address to Congress on Jan. 30.

Ruffalo, one of Trump’s most outspoken Hollywood critics, told People magazine that the alternative event will be “a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view."

Yes, just folks.

"Celebrities' State of the Union" simply doesn't have the right vibe though, does it? But that is what it is.

Ruffalo told People magazine that the the gathering  will be “a better reflection of our state of the union based on a more populist point of view, based on the people’s point of view."

Hope they will be able to round up some actual people for the evening.

We're all for protests but these pretend populists have become a parody of themselves.

If you are still in the market for a dose of celebrity self-righteousness, however, the event is being live streamed.
