The jobs market is hot right now, so hot that wages are rising at their fastest rate in a decade.

With nothing to pick on, leaders on the left are hammering a false talking point that many Americans are working two jobs or more to make ends meet.

Yesterday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez responded to a question about how he can trash the strong jobs numbers given that wages are rising and unemployment is at a 39-year low. He said:

“People need to feel that if they work a fulltime job, they are actually able to feed their family not tread water. Too many people are working two and three jobs to make ends meet because their salaries aren’t enough.”

First, just 5.2 percent of American workers reported holding down more than one job in October. That's not a majority, plurality, or even significant number of workers.

Second, wages for workers in the private sector are up 3.1 percent year-over-year. We haven’t seen such fast wage growth since prior to the recession.

Third, workers moonlighting (working more than one job) may be a good thing. These may not be Americans looking to make ends meet but to make extra income with abundant working opportunities.

This is not the first time we’ve heard this line of attack on the economy. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said this summer:

“Unemployment is low because people have two jobs.”

Exaggerating this statistic is disingenuous and a sign of desperation from the left to fool Americans that their financial situation is worse than it is.

Americans are #betteroffnow thanks to strategies that cut individual, small business and corporate taxes as well as the host of salary increases, bonuses and new benefits that are the direct result of tax reform. Consumer confidence hit an 18-year high in October and that is fueling strong economic growth at over 3.5 percent.

The left should stop perpetuating this false narrative and be honest that we’ve come far from the depths of the recession to a place of financial security, greater opportunity, and better economic results.
