Last week the house rejected the Farm Bill 234 to 195. Nearly three-quarters of the trillion-dollar legislation would have been spent on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP], formerly known as the food stamp program. SNAP spent $74.6 billion dollars on benefits in fiscal years 2012, up from just $15 billion in fiscal years 2000. Charlotte Hays, director of the cultural programs at the Independent Women's Forum, joins 1310 KFKA's AM Colorado to discuss a new challenge that 30 members of Congress are taking — SNAP challenge. Currently a record high, 47 million Americans recieve food stamps (up 70 percent since 2008), so what's the goal of the SNAP challenge?
