Hillary Clinton: Don't Vote for Fiorina Just Because She's a Woman

Prue Robertson, a retiree living in New Hampshire, has never felt the urge to slap a bumper sticker on a vehicle.

"I'm always in favor of women running", she said.

As Mediaite notes, Fiorina's lead has all but evaporated. "She will have to speak for herself", Clinton said.

Those remarks were an unusual direct criticism of Fiorina. If the Republican Party continues to do so, it is going to turn away many supporters.

Fiorina's female support also extends to younger women.

As a lifelong Republican, I wish to take issue with my party. The publisher of the original footage, which doctors say could show the aftermath of an abortion or a miscarriage, has not identified the source of the video or alleged that the footage was taken from a Planned Parenthood facility.

And women aren't her only fans.

Fiorina handily won the second debate, according to most polls, and ended up surging from around three percent in early September to 15 after the debate was over. The billionaire Koch brothers, who have said that they will spend about a billion dollars on the 2016 campaign, are reportedly looking into backing Fiorina.

Whatever happens to her numbers, you're not likely to see Carly Fiorina exit the race anytime soon. Republicans already have no chance with minority voters, but they might still be deluded into thinking they can pick up women with Fiorina riding shotgun. Prior to the debate, he was barely cracking the top ten of the Republican field, settling in with the likes of Rick Santorum (which is a dubious distinction in and of itself) but immediately rocketed to sharing 11 percent of the votes with Marco Rubio.

The stage was set for what would have beeen an entertaining evening for those who had no stake in the matter and a desperate evening for the Republican candidates who were out to make their first lustful stab at the 2016 Presidential bid. Fiorina also mixed in lots of figurative and literal red meat, most notably by attacking Hillary Clinton and Planned Parenthood with a description of a video that she made up in her head. But men and women do vote differently on certain issues like paid maternity leave and equal pay, noted Sabrina Schaeffer, the executive director of the Independent Women's Forum, a conservative political non-profit.

"Carly has never been a token in her life", Anna Epstein, a Fiorina campaign spokesperson, said. "There's no fact to it. But it's worked because it's scared women to death", Fiorina told CNN previous year.

"I think, honestly, it's a gesture", Fiorina responded.

Fiorina's support among women might be surprising, considering she has been one of the most outspoken candidates against abortion.

Clinton has repeatedly sold her campaign in part based on the potentially historic nature of her candidacy. A former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Fiorina will answer questions from voters on issues important to rural Americans and will share her vision for America's future during the one-hour prime-time episode.
