A Midterm Election Like None Other • WGBH News

On the eve of the midterm elections, generic ballot polls show Democrats with an the edge over Republicans in their push to regain control of the House: up three points in the POLITICO/Morning Consult Poll, seven points in the Washinton Post/ABC News Poll and 13 in the CNN/SSRS poll.

While recent polls show that healthcare, the economy, and immigration are voters' top concerns, the president admits he has a tough time sticking to the first two. Meanwhile, former President Obama is also on the campaign trail for Congressional Democrats, reminding voters that the recovery from the 2008 Great Recession began under his administration. But as plenty of journalists and political observers have noted, the economy isn’t the main messaging point for either party this year. President Trump’s hard-right tacks on immigration and race-baiting, as well as his embrace of conspiracy theories and extremist rhetoric, are impossible to ignore.
