Women Fighting on the Front Lines Booklet

Charlotte Hays

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced late last year that all positions in the U.S. military--including fighting on the front line--are now open to women. This is a historic decision. It means not only that women will be assigned to fight in hand-to-hand combat but it also raises unprecedented questions about women registering for the draft.

The Independent Women's Forum (IWF) and the London Center for Policy Research sponsored an important panel on what this policy means for women, men--and military preparedness.

Panelists Major General Bob Newman, Jr., Amber Smith, Gunnery Sergeant Jessie Jane Duff, and Katherine Kidder, moderator Lieutenant Colonel Tony Shaffer, and guest speaker Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), all heavyweight thinkers in the field, discussed the historic announcement.

It was such an important discussion that we decided to preserve it and make it available to a larger audience in a booklet.
