Today is Equal Pay Day, a holiday created to signify how far into the current year that the average working woman has to work to catch up with the average working man's earns the previous year. What drives the pay gap? Do women currently face widespread wage discrimination? Is wage discrimination illegal in the United States? We want to set the record straight. That’s why IWF asked you to send us your questions about Equal Pay Day and the Wage Gap:

Women and men make a host of choices throughout their lives – from college major, to career choices, workplace priorities to name a few – based on their own needs and preferences. This isn’t something we should try to change. When economists control for these factors the wage gap shrinks and women make nearly the same amount as men. We should celebrate that we have the freedom to pursue our own versions of happiness.
