Video: Addressing America's Immigration Challenges

by IWF Staff

There’s an increased interest in immigration reform. Yet, many key facts about immigration are left out or misrepresented in political debates and the media, causing great confusion about our country’s immigration policies.

Watch the video below and then see how much you know about immigration by taking a series of short quizzes at ImmigrationQuestions.com.

Video Transcript:

The U.S. is very welcoming to immigrants.

About one million people immigrate to the U.S each year. We are home to more immigrants than any country in the world.

Immigrants contribute to our cultural diversity and the strength of the U.S. economy.

Yet there are many serious issues with our current immigration system that need to be addressed.

Most immigrants in the U.S. are here legally. But increasing numbers attempt to enter the U.S. illegally through a porous Southern Border or by overstaying visas.

Illegal immigration places our national security at risk and poses public safety and health concerns. Illegal immigration also causes the wages of competing U.S. workers to fall from 0.4 to 7.4 percent.

The U.S. needs a viable long-term solution to better control who immigrates here.

Our legal immigration system has not kept pace with our changing needs; it has not been updated since 1965.

The U.S. can only continue to be a nation of immigrants if we are also a nation of laws.

Our laws should protect our safety and promote our interests, as well as continue to offer opportunity to immigrants.
