The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives just passed the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

The PRO Act would be a giant step backwards for workplace flexibility.

Today, women (and men) enjoy unprecedented work opportunities including flexible work arrangements.

Independent contracting and freelancing allow us to control our own schedules and balance work with family life.

The PRO Act would reclassify many independent contractors as traditional employees.

This would destroy these opportunities, just as a similar law, AB5, did in  California.

California’s AB5 law has already hurt thousands of workers, robbing them of income or the opportunity to work on their own terms.

Both the PRO Act and AB 5 seek to push workers back into an antiquated, union-controlled 9-to-5 work world.

For many women, the PRO Act would force an all-or-nothing choice between working and not working, potentially forcing them out of the labor force.

That’s the wrong direction for America.
