WOMEN DON’T TRUST GOP
They Are Not Hearing the Conservative Message

Schaeffer: “Conservatives shy away from playing gender politics – which is a good thing – but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to think seriously about how to market to and talk to women!"

(Washington, D.C.) – Women voters made a huge difference in Tuesday’s election.  Casting 53 percent of the votes, women gave President Obama a double-digit margin, and another four years in the White House. So, how can the GOP overcome women’s trust issues with conservatives?  How can conservatives better reach the gender and win their vote?

Sabrina Schaeffer, executive director of the Independent Women's Forum, said:

“There’s no way of sugar coating it. This election was a disaster for the GOP when it came to women.

“Sadly the GOP lost all the gains it had made during 2010, when Republicans not only managed to close the gender gap, but also a slew of strong conservative women swept in the House, the Senate, and at the state level.

“The fact is, despite the Administration’s record of massive deficits, intractable unemployment, and a rising cost-of-living, women continue to run toward the arms of the state. And it’s because they are not hearing our message.

“Conservatives shy away from playing gender politics – which is a good thing – but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to think seriously about how to market to and talk to women!

“We have got to get out there and make it clear to women how limited government, personal responsibility, and free markets will actually give them more freedom, more choice, more opportunity, and more security.

“Conservatives need to get out there and talk face-to-face to women and make it clear that Liberty is No War on Women.”

“ It’s our goal at the Independent Women’s Forum to reach women – young-old, single-married, urban-rural – and make clear to them how limited government, personal responsibility, and free markets provide more freedom, more choice, more opportunity, and more security.

“At the end of the day, conservatives and Republicans have an extremely strong message but it’s not reaching beyond the base.  We need to analyze where the gaps are, work together to find new ways to address women’s concerns, and expand the coalition of those supporting our principles to include more women.”
