INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S FORUM STATEMENT ON CDC REPORT OF ZIKA POSITIVE PREGNANT WOMEN
Is Shameful Politics Impeding Public Prevention?

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 279 pregnant women from the United States and its territories have shown signs of infection from the Zika virus, which can cause severe birth defects and miscarriages. Independent Women's Forum Culture of Alarmism Director Julie Gunlock issued the following statement:

"Zika is a serious problem and Americans should be able to protect themselves against this disease. Yet, the EPA along with Congressional Democrats are making it hard for local communities to acquire the permits they need to spray repellents that can kill Zika-carrying mosquitos and protect the public. Politics should never impede public health. That's exactly what's happening in this country today and we're seeing the tragic results for pregnant women."
