INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S FORUM STATEMENT

WHY THE WHITE HOUSE TAX PLAN IS A WIN FOR WOMEN

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) released a Working for Women supplement on tax reform on Wednesday following President Donald Trump's Indiana remarks detailing a new tax plan. The document explains why tax reform offers an extraordinary opportunity to help women succeed in today’s economy. Additionally, IWF's senior policy analyst Patrice Onwuka issued the following statement on the White House plan:

“The White House tax plan is a win for women. Reducing tax rates, increasing the standard deduction and the child tax credit, and simplifying the tax code are the types of changes IWF proposed in our Working for Women report because they benefit women.

“Women at all income levels will have more money to spend and save as a better economic climate leads to more jobs. Women tend to be the managers of household budgets and are often the main breadwinners, so they know how much it will help to have more money in their pockets for housing, food, healthcare, education and other necessities.https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

“Women will benefit as workers, keeping more of their earnings. Lowering the corporate tax rate will make it more likely that workers might finally see a real raise.  And female business owners can look forward to greater growth and the opportunity to expand as they become more competitive with international businesses. We may experience even faster growth in women-owned businesses, which are already being established 1.5 times faster the national average.

“This tax plan would be a big step in the right direction for women and our country.”

Working for Women: A Modern Agenda for Improving Women’s Lives, a report released by IWF last year, details a slate of policy reforms to help more women and families, in which they have more control over the most pressing parts of their lives – including reforms to the tax code to benefit women in the workforce and society.
